The Women's Place invites male and *man-identified allies to help create a more inclusive and equitable culture for women and minoritized groups at Ohio State. In this workshop led by male campus leaders/Advocates, learn about gender bias, the skills and strategies to interrupt it, and ways to contribute to positive changes on Ohio State's campuses.

Ally workshops are part of the Advocates & Allies for Equity initiative launched by The Women's Place and partners in November 2016. This NSF, evidence-based initiative involves male leaders, or Advocates, convening to develop male Allies into a cross-campus network in support of advancing women and underrepresented faculty and staff.

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information about joining the meeting.

Why Ally Workshops Include Only Men and Man-identified Participants

The facilitations include only men and man-identified participants to offer a safe and supportive space for participating in critical conversations. It’s an environment where men, often for the first time, can openly explore their questions, confusions, hopes, and concerns related to diversity issues in their organizations.

This event will be presented with automated closed captions. If you have questions about accessibility or wish to request additional accommodations, please contact womensplace@osu.edu. Typically two weeks' notice will allow us to provide access.

*Since gender identity is an internal, inherent sense for an individual, we specify man-identified as an inclusive term which may or may not correspond to a person’s sex assigned at birth or to a person’s primary or secondary sex characteristics.

Help create a more inclusive and equitable culture for women-identified colleagues and minoritized groups at Ohio State. The Women’s Place invites man-identified* participants to attend this workshop, which is led by man-identified campus leaders/Advocates. Attendees will learn about gender bias, the skills and strategies to interrupt it, and ways to contribute to positive changes on Ohio State's campuses.

Ally workshops are part of the Advocates & Allies for Equity initiative launched by The Women's Place and partners in November 2016. This NSF, evidence-based initiative involves man-identified leaders, or Advocates, convening to develop male Allies into a cross-campus network in support of advancing women-identified and underrepresented faculty and staff.

Why Ally Workshops Include Only Man-identified Participants
The facilitations include only man-identified participants to encourage them to take greater responsibility for promoting gender equity, a goal that is usually led for and by women performing additional labor. Instead, as the primary participants in this program, man-identified colleagues share and learn while holding each other accountable for growth. Led by and for male-identified individuals, these sessions offer a safe and supportive space for participating in critical conversations.

In observance of Sexual Assault Awareness Month in April, The Women's Place invites you to view and discuss the documentary film Nevertheless, which looks behind #MeToo headlines to the realities of sexual harassment and how we can end it. Participants who register will receive a link to view the film independently through direct streaming from April 9-17. Then registrants can join an open discussion of the film on Wednesday, April 20 at 6 pm to share reflections and strategize meaningful action.

Nevertheless follows the intimate stories of seven individuals who have experienced and overcome sexual harassment in the workplace or at school. From a writer's assistant on a top TV show, to a tech CEO, to a 911 dispatcher, the film’s subjects spotlight the stories of survivors who are shifting our culture. Workplace sexual harassment is not a ‘women’s issue’ — it is something that is born out of our collective culture and it affects everyone. We all need to be involved in its solution, and this film is a powerful way to start the conversation.

Learn more by viewing a trailer of the film.

This program is free and open to people of all genders. Registration is required. The event will not be recorded for later viewing.

Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) is a campus-wide collaboration sponsored by the Student Life Student Wellness Center and several campus partners. This month of events is open to all students, staff and faculty and is devoted to raising awareness about sexual violence and educating communities and individuals on how to prevent it. See a list of all campus SAAM events.

Since March 2020, news headlines and personal accounts have been attesting to the particular toll that the COVID-19 pandemic and its disruptions have had on women. Often tasked with working and caregiving, many women are finding their career advancement and economic gains reversed. How can we regain momentum towards gender equity? Join The Women’s Place at The Ohio State University for a virtual symposium to encourage resilience, community, and meaningful policy change.

The symposium features keynote Selena Rezvani, author, speaker and leadership consultant. Her mission is to help women carve out leadership paths on their own terms. She also consults with employers on how to make work truly “work” for women — by architecting culture change that improves working women’s experience. She’s the author of two leadership books, the bestseller Pushback: How Smart Women Ask — and Stand Up — for What They Want and The Next Generation of Women Leaders. Rezvani addresses thousands of professionals each year and has been featured in TEDx, Oprah.com, Inc., Todayshow.com, and NPR. Today she’s a columnist for NBC News Know Your Value.

This free event is open to Ohio State faculty, staff, students, and community partners of all genders. Stay tuned for additional speaker and agenda details.
